Hong Kong & Macau Regional Competition

The 12th Steinway China Youth Piano Competition & the 89th Steinway & Sons International Children & Youth Piano Competition will be held in China from August to December 2025, organized by Steinway Piano Asia Pacific Ltd. This year's competition will reach new heights in scale, featuring a prestigious panel of judges composed of renowned piano masters and music education experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, highlighting the consistently high standards of the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition.

Regional competitions and venues will be established nationwide. The Hong Kong and Macau region will follow the overall competition regulations, upholding the principles of fairness and impartiality in setting up the preliminary and final rounds for the Hong Kong and Macau division. Tom Lee Music will be the organizer for this region.

This year's Hong Kong and Macau division introduces new categories: "Open Rising Stars Age Group", "Open Graded Piano Solo Group". "Open Repertoire Group", "Open Piano Duet Group" and "Open Non-Competitive Performance Group" (According to the advancement rules in the overall regulations, these new categories will only participate in the finals of the Hong Kong and Macau division and will not advance to the China finals), aiming to fulfill the aspirations and pursuits of piano enthusiasts of all ages for the stage.



Ⅰ. General Provisions

  1. Contestants are not restricted by nationality but must present a valid government-issued identification document (original) during the competition to confirm their age, such as an ID card or passport. If the information shown on the identification does not match, the contestants will be disqualified immediately.
  2. The rights to audio-visual promotion of contestants and winners, as well as the rights to organize related performances and concerts, belong to the organizing committee of the Hong Kong and Macau division, without any additional compensation to the contestants.
  3. In case of any discrepancies between the Chinese and English versions, the Chinese version shall prevail.
  4. The interpretation rights of these regulations belong to the organizing committee of the Hong Kong and Macau division. In case of any disputes, the organizing committee reserves the final decision.

STEINWAY & SONS國際青少年鋼琴比賽每兩年在世界各個賽區選拔精英,資助他們參與德國漢堡的國際施坦威藝術節,讓他們跟世界各地同齡的優秀鋼琴愛好者交流音樂心得和切磋演奏技巧,進而建立純潔的友誼。

STEINWAY & SONS國際青少年鋼琴比賽中國賽區共有13個賽區,分別為:

而地區預選賽地點分別為中國澳門、北京、長春、長沙、成都、重慶、滁州、大連、東莞、東台、佛山、阜陽、廣州、哈爾濱、杭州、合肥、衡水、濟南、連雲港、南京、南通、寧波、青島、汕頭、上海、深圳、瀋陽、石家莊、蘇州、太原、唐山、無錫、武漢、西安、香港、徐州、鹽城、揚州、宜興、鄭州、中山及珠海。港澳賽區專業組A及B組的首三名與 C組的第一名可以晉身中國總決賽。A組和B組更可競逐「專業組特等獎」榮譽,並有機會代表中國參加來年在德國舉辦的「國際STEINWAY & SONS藝術節」盛會;而上海總決賽專業組C組一等獎的得主可獲STEINWAY家族系列之ESSEX EGP-155C/EP黑色拋光三角鋼琴一台,還將獲邀在施坦威之家北京霍洛威茲音樂廳開辦音樂會,並獲得在STEINWAY & SONS官方平台上的宣傳。港澳業餘规定曲目組A及B組的首三名和C組的首兩名除可晉身中國總決賽外,更可爭奪「業餘組特等獎」,優勝者將獲得STEINWAY家族系列之ESSEX EUP-123E/EP黑色拋光直立式鋼琴一台。

Ⅳ. Confirmation of eligibility

  1. Each participant can only choose one region to register and participate.
  2. Participants cannot register for both the Professional Group and the Amateur Required Repertoire Group at the same time.
  3. Contestants in the older age groups are not allowed to register for competitions in the younger age groups.
  4. In some categories that allow multiple registrations, participants can sign up for multiple categories. For more details, please contact the organizer.
  5. Once the registration form is submitted, any requested changes must be communicated to the organizing committee at least 7 days before the scheduled competition date of the registered category. While the committee will make every effort to accommodate changes, success is not guaranteed. A non-refundable administrative fee of HKD 200 will be charged for each successful amendment.   6. Participants who have registered for the Professional Group or Amateur Prescribed Repertoire Group cannot register for the Open Graded Piano Solo Group or Open Rising Stars Age Group.
  7. Students majoring in piano performance in professional music and art colleges in Chinese Mainland (including affiliated middle schools and primary schools) must participate in the professional group. Students of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ Youth Music Programme can choose to register in the following groups: Professional Group, Amateur Required Repertoire Group, or Open Categories.
  8. The college group is open to all students who are not majoring in piano performance. All students (except those majoring in piano performance) are welcome to participate, including Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts/PhD students from comprehensive universities or Associate or Advanced Diploma programs in non-piano performance majors. You must present a valid student ID when registering for the competition. For specific registration qualifications, please inquire with the organizer for confirmation.
  9. There is no age limit for the teacher performance group. Any relevant teacher certificate or relevant academic qualification certificate can be uploaded as identity proof.
  10. Contestants who enter the Hong Kong and Macao Regional Finals, after receiving the finals' notice, please confirm participation within the specified timeframe upon receiving the finals notification to secure competition eligibility.
  11. The results of the Hong Kong and Macau contestants entering the China finals will be notified by the Hong Kong and Macau sub-contest organizer after the Hong Kong and Macau sub-contest finals.

  • Contestants who register for the Amateur Required Repertoire Group will simultaneously receive one complimentary performance opportunity. Specific arrangements will be communicated via email.
  • Students majoring in piano performance in professional music and art schools in Chinese Mainland and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (including affiliated middle schools and primary schools) must participate in the professional group. Students of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ Youth Music Programme can choose to register in the following groups: Professional Group, Amateur Required Repertoire Group, or Open Categories.

Ⅵ. Awards and qualification for the Hong Kong and Macau competition area

  1. The professional group and amateur prescribed repertoire group of this competition are divided into the Hong Kong and Macau sub-competition area preliminary round, the Hong Kong and Macau sub-competition area final and the China final. All other open groups will have one round of finals in the Hong Kong and Macau regions and will not advance to the China finals.
  2. Each participant will receive an attendance medal and souvenirs.
  3. Each participant in the open rising stars age group, open graded piano solo group, open repertoire group and open piano duet group will receive comment sheets, score sheets, and ranking certificates, and the top three will receive a crystal trophy.
  4. There are no rankings or scores for the open non-competitive performance group. Performers will receive comment sheets and performance certificates.
  5. The shortlist for the finals in the Hong Kong and Macau division will be announced on the official steinway competition website within two weeks after the completion of all preliminary rounds for the professional group and amateur prescribed repertoire group.
  6. The champions, runners-up, and third-place winners of the professional A and B groups, the champion of the professional C group, the champions, runners-up, and third-place winners of the amateur prescribed repertoire A and B groups, as well as the champions and runners-up of the amateur prescribed repertoire C group must represent the Hong Kong and Macau division in the China final categories. If any awardees choose to forfeit their positions, the next eligible contestants will be sequentially promoted to fill the vacancies. The final arrangements will be decided by the judging panel.
  7. Champions of the professional A, B, and C groups, as well as the amateur prescribed repertoire A, B, and C groups in the Hong Kong and Macau division, will receive a cash coupon worth HKD 10,000 for purchasing a brand new piano from Tom Lee Music. Runners-up in these groups will receive a cash coupon worth HKD 5,000, while third-place winners will receive a cash coupon worth HKD 2,000 for purchasing a brand new piano.
  8. The open categories of the Hong Kong and Macao division has one champion, runner-up and third-runner of each group (except for the open non-competitive performance group). The instructors of the first, second and third place winners in each group will be awarded the "Outstanding Instructor Award".
  9. If a teacher recommends 15 or more contestants, sponsorship from Tom Lee Music will be provided to hold an event at TOM LEE BACKSTAGE STUDIO. If a teacher recommends 30 or more contestants, sponsorship from TOM LEE STUDIO will be provided to hold an event. The final decision regarding the arrangement of details will be reserved by Tom Lee Music.
  10. All types of educational institutions participating in the competition (including kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, piano stores, studios, etc.) with 15 or more contestants will have the opportunity to win the "Outstanding Academy Award" crystal trophy.
  11. The winners of the concerto group are limited to the players of the first piano.
  12. The China finals will feature 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize, 3 excellence prizes, and 1 best chamber music award for professional groups A, B, and C of the "The 12th Steinway China Youth Piano Competition". 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 6 excellence prizes for amateur prescribed repertoire groups A, B, and C; prize money for each group is to be determined. One first prize winner of professional group A and group B will be selected as the Special Prize winner of the professional group, who will receive a certificate and an award to participate in the next "International Steinway Festival" to be held in Germany; the first prize winner of professional group C will be awarded an Essex EGP-155C EP polished black grand piano from the Steinway Family Series, and will be invited to hold a concert in the Horowitz Concert Hall of the Steinway Home, and receive publicity on the official Steinway platform. One finalist of professional groups A, B, and C will be selected as the Best Chamber Music Award winner, who will receive a certificate and a customized trophy. Among the first prize winners of the amateur required repertoire groups A, B, and C, there will be one special prize winner in the amateur required repertoire group, who will be awarded an Essex EUP-123E EP polished black upright piano from the Steinway family series.
  13. The distribution of prizes (bonuses) is strictly formulated according to established rules and clear standards, and no form of debate is allowed.
  14. The judging panel has the right to decide the number of contestants who will advance to the regional finals based on their actual level, and has the right to deal with tied or vacant rankings and awards.
  15. The winners are obliged to cooperate with performances, concerts and other activities related to this competition organized by the organizer within a certain period of time.

Ⅶ. Rules and Regulations

  1. Contestants must arrive at the competition venue according to the details provided in the confirmation letter issued by the organizing committee.
  2. Contestants must present their competition confirmation letter, original ID, and relevant qualification documents (proof of enrollment or certificates) during check-in, and will be disqualified on the spot if their ID does not match their registration details.
  3. Each contestant may bring a maximum of one accompanying adult into the competition venue.
  4. If contestants have not received any notification of competition details by early August should inquire via WhatsApp to (852) 6652 6738 or email to steinwaycompetition@tomleemusic.com for enquiry.
  5. During the competition, contestants should wear formal attire.
  6. Registration fees are not refundable and places cannot be transferred once paid.
  7. If there are insufficient registrations, the group will be cancelled and a refund will be issued.
  8. The organizing committee reserves the right to refuse entry to ineligible or illegal participants and no refund will be provided.
  9. The number of participants in each group is limited and will be closed on a first-come, first-served basis. If the quota is full before the deadline, the organizing committee may terminate the registration in advance without further notice.
  10. If the competition and Tom Lee Music Academy class are held at the same time and you are unable to participate, the organizing committee will not arrange another time and no refund will be provided. Entries cannot be transferred or used for other competitions.
  11. Contestants are not allowed to change the competition date and time. If they fail to attend as scheduled, they will be deemed to have waived their qualifications and no refund will be provided. The final decision lies with the organizing committee.
  12. There is no need to memorize the music score in the preliminary round of the Hong Kong and Macau sub-competition area of ​​the China finals group, but memorization is required in the final; there is no need to memorize the music score in the open groups of the Hong Kong and Macau sub-competition area.
  13. In addition to the specified repertoire, we recommend selecting works of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th century or contemporary music.
  14. The organizing committee will not provide toddler assist pedals. If necessary, participants are requested to bring their own child assist pedals, which they will need to install and remove by themselves.
  15. Contestants must bring a set of original or copied music scores for the jury's reference and return them immediately after the performance. If you need to read the score on stage, please bring your own photocopy.
  16. The competition timer starts from the time the contestant starts playing to the end; the judges may stop the contestant when the time is exceeded, but it will not affect the score. No objection may be raised to the decision made by the judging panel and the final results announced.
  17. All judges are not allowed to participate in the judging of their students.
  18. All contestants are deemed to agree to abide by the competition regulations.
  19. The organizing committee reserves the right to modify competition rules, prizes, and judging panels without prior notice.
  20. In case of any disputes, the committee's decision shall be final.
